When it comes to safety, Landstar believes we are all in this together. That’s why we go beyond our own strict operator qualification requirements, dynamic orientation and training programs for owner operators to offer extensive customer and public education programs.

On the third Thursday of each month, Landstar holds a Safety Thursday Conference Call and various safety events at agencies and truckstops across the country. On the call, our President and CEO, owner operators, agents, employees, customers and law enforcement representatives are invited to participate in an open exchange of ideas on how to operate more safely.

Landstar’s M.U.S.T. initiative, or Mutual Understanding of Safety Together, joins  customers with Landstar representatives in developing responsive, customized solutions for each situation.

Landstar teams up with the U.S. DOT to bring the No-Zone program to schools, customers and public venues to educate the motoring public on how to safely share the road with big trucks.

Landstar security initiatives include background checks, trailer lock programs participation in the Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) and the Free and Secure Trade (FAST) programs.

  • Security - Background screening of prospective employees, agents and owner operators.
  • Facilities - Landstar’s primary service centers utilize access control, guard services and surveillance.
  • Education & Training - All Landstar employees, agents and BCOs are provided company orientation training to include security awareness, cargo integrity and unauthorized access. These programs encourage active participation by the employee, agent and/or BCO in safeguarding the supply chain.
  • Equipment Tracking – Company trailers equipped with remote tracking capability throughout North America, cellular communication with equipment leased to Landstar and satellite tracking/communications for select services
